Great news!

Thanks to the support of the NLnet Foundation, we are progressing steadily toward implementing the future roadmap for the Sylk client across both desktop and mobile platforms.
The funding we have received will be invested in features that significantly reduce the gap between Sylk and the proprietary, siloed communication applications that dominate today’s market. These developments are not merely incremental improvements—they are essential steps toward strengthening the adoption of open-source software built on open standards.

A key feature in this effort is the introduction of persistent contact storage with seamless synchronization across multiple devices. This empowers users to set up Sylk on any new device and instantly regain access to their existing contacts, without relying on closed ecosystems or vendor lock-in.

SylkServer and OpenXCAP will provide the backend foundation for this functionality, enabling Sylk’s contact list to remain fully cross-platform and to synchronize bidirectionally with other SIP devices that use the XCAP protocol for presence rules and resource lists—for example, the classic Blink client. Together, these components help advance a more open, interoperable, and user-controlled communications ecosystem.
