[Blink] broken audio on debian squeeze

i answer to my own message.  i got audio working properly, by selecting
HDA Intel as audio input and output device.  this didn't change anything
in settings, i.e., input_device and output_device are still
system_default, which makes me wonder why selecting HDA Intel solved
the problem.
